About Piece of Syria
Established in May 2016 as a voluntary organization and officially becoming an NGO in July 2021, Piece of Syria is based in Osaka, Japan. The group's name, "Piece of Syria," is based on the concept of "putting pieces together" and reflects their desire to bring peace to Syria, which has fallen apart like pieces of a puzzle. Their mission is driven by the belief that children are the cornerstone of reconstruction efforts, playing a vital role in building a peaceful and hopeful future.
Why This Matters
As we approach 14 years since the Syrian conflict in March 2011, millions of children continue to face immense challenges. Nearly five million children born in Syria since the war began, know nothing but conflict. Many have been forced to leave school due to reasons ranging from insecurity to poverty and a lack of resources.
In times of war and crisis, the right to education is often neglected. Yet education holds the transformative power to inspire collaboration and rebuild communities—little by little, one child at a time. Without it, the cycle of fear and hardship persists. These threats not only endanger their lives but also have a lasting impact on their physical and mental well-being.
How Piece of Syria Makes a Difference
Through collaborations with local organizations, Piece of Syria provides education to children in areas inaccessible to larger aid agencies, including the UN and international NGOs. These initiatives ensure that even in the most challenging circumstances, children have the chance to learn, grow, and contribute to rebuilding their communities.
